Holiday Gift Guide 101. I think it’s an unspoken rule that every holiday-related post has to begin with a sentiment along the lines of “Hard to believe the holiday season is already upon us!” And every gift guide has to promise to address the dread and angst associated with shopping for Mr. or Ms. Impossible.
This year, the Jackson & James team is living both of those truisms. As we enter our second holiday season, we can’t believe how quickly the past 14 months have flown by since we opened. We’ve enjoyed seeing so many of you at the store and getting to know you better. If you haven’t been by in a while, stop by and say “hi.” We also can’t wait to share with you our ever-expanding product offering. It’s our sincere hope (and we feel pretty good about it) that there is a thoughtful, unique gift option for all the guys on your holiday shopping list.
The Guy Who Has Everything
The bar accessories from W&P are a can’t-go-wrong option if there’s someone on your list who enjoys an adult beverage every now and then. The combo Wine/Bottle Opener is a stylish design and an upgrade from the opener in the sole of his Reef flip-flops. And the Peak Ice Tray is perhaps the best-selling item in our store!
Kato’s done it again this year, with a new version of a store favorite—the Anvil Wool Shirt Jacket. Just the right mix of classic and contemporary, this jacket is versatile enough to go from office to date night and warm enough to wear a good chunk of the winter here in Richmond.
You say he has “everything,” does he? Does he have a handmade safety razor, crafted from reclaimed wood from the Richmond area? There’s something very satisfying in the daily ritual of using a razor like this one. A unique and memorable throwback gift for sure.
Maybe your guy doesn’t need the razor, because he’s sporting a Grizzly Adams beard. He claims this monstrosity will help get him through a winter’s worth of outdoor activities. If that’s the case, you’re in luck, as we’ve got a ton of outdoor appropriate items that he’ll be sure to appreciate.
The United by Blue Bison Quilted Blanket is filled with super insulating Bison fiber and recycled polyester. One side is a super-soft orange and blue plaid flannel (great for the Wahoo in your life) and the other side is waterproof, making it a great choice for camping, picnics, etc.
Whether you call them beanies or watch caps, we’ve got a ton of different choices that will keep his head warm while looking sharp. Will also work for the hipster in your life who sports one year-round.
Any outdoorsman (or doomsday prepper) on your list will appreciate Duke Cannon’s Emergency Heat + Light Survival Apparatus, which is a portable source of heat and light that delivers immediate illumination and warmth. AKA a candle. (We’ve also got TONS of other candles. Guys like candles waaaay more than people think. Trust us on this one.)
We all know the type. He’s sitting at the bar, sipping on a Negroni Facetiming the team in California, while rescheduling his flight and booking a cycle class. He wants items in his life that work as hard as he (purportedly) does.
Mr. Multi-Tasker, you have met your match in the Rancourt Heritage Court Classic Mid. This shoe achieves a level of maturity rarely seen in sneakers. Each pair is handcrafted from “heritage” materials like Horween’s Chromexcel leather, chestnut leather laces from Auburn Leather and antique brass eyelets along with Vibram’s Strighton sole in honey. He can pair them with chinos or slacks for the office, but they look just as good with denim on the weekends. And the color pretty much does with everything
Or perhaps the Grayers Belmont Plaited Cardigan is more his style. It’s a classic shawl cardigan that works as an outer garment in place of a jacket or a layering piece under a parka. This sweater would be equally comfortable teaching 300-level Comparative Lit or walking the dog in Bryant Park on a brisk fall day.
If your guy is a ruthlessly efficient suitcase packer à la George Clooney in Up in the Air, perhaps a pair of American Trench Silver Socks will fit the bill. They took American sourced merino wool which is soft, warm, and moisture wicking, and added anti-microbial silver in the heel and toe to really kill the odor. This is a sock you can wear for days if needed. (Mike can confirm.)
These are just a few suggestions to get you started. There are hundreds of items in-store (most of them having arrived after October) for your consideration. If you’ve got questions, please feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email. We love helping folks find the perfect gift. (Hint: if you put thought into it, it’s perfect. Unless it’s a terrycloth wraparound. Mike received one of those from our grandmother one Christmas. Don’t buy him a terrycloth wraparound. Love you grandma, miss you!)
We just wanted to end by saying we’re feeling extremely thankful for all of you and your support. There’s no way we could possibly say it enough. Thanks for your patronage. And for the random drop-ins on the way to dinner next door. Also the laughs. Most of all, thanks for the friends we’ve made along the way.
Wishing you and yours a safe and warm holiday season,
Mike and Rachel
